Intimacy Coordinator for Film & TV
When should you hire an Intimacy Coordinator?
SAG-AFTRA requires producers to engage an Intimacy Coordinator for any scenes involving nudity or simulated sex.
In addition, a performer can request an Intimacy Coordinator be present for the filming of any intimate or hyper-exposed scenes.
Per SAG-AFTRA Agreement guidelines, the producers must make a good faith effort to provide an Intimacy Coordinator upon receiving a performer’s request.
What is an Intimacy Coordinator?
An Intimacy Coordinator (IC) is a liaison, advocate and/or choreographer employed during scenes that involve nudity, simulated sex, intimate physical contact, and/or hyper exposure. Acting as the intermediary between the performers and the production, the IC will assist in drafting Intimate Scene Riders, provide expertise in use of modesty garments and choreography masking techniques, promote an environment of informed and continued consent, and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
